A message to parents from Mr.Kenny
Thank you all so much for the work you are continuing to do at home. From the feedback we have received, everyone has adapted to this differently and that is normal. School is a huge part of our daily lives and it has been taken from us and with it, the structure of our days. But, it is what it is and we move forward. The first thing you need to know is that you are not ‘teachers’ in the formal sense, therefore no one expects you to teach your child to the standards of Department of Education and Skills. The ‘cigire’ will not be paying you an incidental visit. So relax. However, you have been teaching your child since the day they were born so you do know what you are doing; in this ‘new normal’ you are the expert, so trust yourself.
For senior room pupils, a certain amount of self-motivation is expected. Pupils should be able to complete all the activities themselves, with some supervision and check-ins. Parents can correct the work themselves or have the pupils email it to the school firstname.lastname@example.org and I will give feedback. Some pupils may be using copies and others computers so every situation differs. Projects will be posted on Google classroom at a later date.
We recommend parents put in place a timetable that works for them - every family situation is different. What matters the most is consistency, maintaining a harmonious home environment and getting the basics done every day- ie. Literacy and Numeracy. The work is just a suggested list of activities and if some pupils can't get all the work done that is fine. Every pupil is different.
Any questions, please email them to me at any time.
